OMAHA, Neb -- Team Kaos garnered 14 podium positions during the Omaha Cycling Weekend on July 10 and July 11, with teenage racer Mark Heubner kicking things off with a win in the junior category and Kaos veteran Chris Spence capping the weekend with a state road race championship.

Between, Kaos racers in almost all categories pedaled into successful finishes in the three-day series that saw 100 racers battle in a time trial, crit and road race.

Rich Pearson took first place in the 50+ category in Sunday’s 10-mile time trial. Scott Kiddoo came in second place in the 40+ group. Kyle McClellan snagged third place in the Cat. 3 race while riding Eddie Merckx-style. Ian Robertson did double duty in the time trial by pumping out a win on a non-aero bike, and then finished the race with his full time-trial setup. Kaos showed its dominance in the Cat. 1/2s with second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth place finishes, taken respectively by Jarred Berger, Marco Vasquez, Justin Maresh, Matt Farnham, Spence and Ian Robertson.

Branched Oak Lake, Neb. - Team Kaos racers earned top spots on the podium last Saturday in Tour de Husker races around Branched Oak Lake park just outside of Lincoln.

Kaos’ Jarred Berger placed first in the Cat. 1/2/3 road race, hammering around the 11-mile course five times for the 58-mile win.

In the top collegiate race, Kaos and University of Nebraska racer Justin Maresh took the win in a field comprising 10 racers from four universities.

Kaos’ Kyle McClellan took first place in the Cat. 4 race, and Kaos won the team time trial by more than two minutes, crossing the finish line with a time of 35:30 in the 15-mile lap.

Berger’s victory came after a surge by Joe McWilliams, who got off the front of a seven-man breakaway that included four Kaos racers, according to racer John Vondracek, who was in the group. McWilliams was caught with a half lap to go. That’s when the Kaos attacks came relentlessly,Vondracek said. The attacks swallowed McWilliams but allowed Berger to flee. Berger then won in a field sprint, Vondracek said.

Team Kaos had a successful weekend at Nebraska's last cycling event of the year—the Lincoln Cyclocross Weekend. John Vondracek started it out with a good showing in the masters 40+ and 50+ race, landing a mid pack finish in a very strong field.  In the category 3 / 4 race James Blake came in third while Rich Pearson finished mid-pack. In the 1/2/3 race Matt Farnham battled hard
for 3rd all the way but got nipped at the line by Jesse Peterson from Monkey Wrench.  At Sunday's state championship race Pearson's day started out badly when he rolled a tire and crashed, ending up 10th out of 12, but he still earned a silver medal for 50+ Nebraska riders. Jeremy Eisenhauer then finished mid-pack in the category 4 race, one of his first cyclocross races. At the 3/4 race
Pearson tried again and was able to get 5th. In the 1/2/3 event Farnham
again came in 4th, and became the Nebraska category 2 champion. Blake also
got the bronze for category 3. Overall medal count: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1
bronze. Well done!!

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Alegent Health Team Kaos’ Justin Maresh took first place at the Old Capital Criterium in downtown Iowa City.

The Cat. 3 racer worked with teammate Vaughn Pierce in the April 25 race, setting the pace, offering a few attacks and then holding back until the right time.

Maresh and Pierce rolled off the start of the 25-lap race in the back of the pack after a late arrival. Maresh worked to get to the fornt of the group about three laps into the race.

During the next eight laps, Maresh said he attacked and bridged gaps to other groups. After reaching one breakaway, Maresh fell back to the middle of the pack to recover.

“And as I did this, I saw Vaughn moving to the front,” Maresh said in a team letter after the race.

Pierce then took over, attacking and bridging to more groups.
