Butterfield wins Offutt Duathlon

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Dave Butterfield of Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center took the overall title at the Offutt Air Force Base Duathlon on Saturday.

A major in the United States Air Force, Butterfield tamed the 12-mile bike and 4-mile run to take the win in Kaos' red and white.

 
Kaos rips into 'cross season

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Rich Pearson kicked off cyclocross season for Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center with a victory in the Cat. 4 men's race in the first of two days of racing Saturday and Sunday.

At age 57, Pearson was 10 years older than the combined age of the second- and third-place finishers.

Kaos takes three state titles

RAYMOND, Neb. -- Chris Spence of Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center soloed for the final 13 miles to win the men's Cat. 1/2/3 state championship on Saturday at Branched Oak Lake northwest of Lincoln.

Spence attacked breakaway partner Nick Ziemet of EVCC/Bike Way on the last of 7 laps around the course. The pair went off the front with two laps remaining. Spence was also in an earlier break that was reeled in. Ziemet went on to finish sixth after being swallowed by the peloton.

Also reaching the top step on Saturday for Team Kaos: Rich Pearson (Masters 55-plus) and Steve Cramer (Cat. 5 55-plus).

Eugene Celebration: Stage 4

EUGENE, Ore. -- Matt Pavlovich of Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center finished fourth in Monday's Wolf Creek Road Race and wrapped the four-stage race in third place overall.

Monday's 84-mile race featured four big climbs per lap, and Pavlovich escaped with a group of six on lap two. The group quickly established a 2-minute gap on the peloton, and later whittled the breakaway to four riders.

Pavlovich finished fourth in the final sprint, a steep uphill finish. In the Cat. 3 GC, he finished 1 minute, 50 seconds off the pace of winner Kai Applequist (Bike Boys of Boise).

 
Eugene Celebration: Stages 2 & 3

EUGENE, Ore. -- Matt Pavlovich of Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center finished second in the Stage 2 time trial at the Eugene Celebration Stage Race on Sunday.

Pavlovich covered the seven-mile course in 14 minutes, 39 seconds. Later in the day, Pavlovich finished in the top 10 in the Stage 3 criterium -- official results were not available yet -- and moved into fifth place in the Cat. 3 general classification.
