Council Bluffs, Iowa - More than 80 riders of all ages and abilities participated in the second annual "One Lap of the Bluffs" fundraising ride Sunday.
The 26-mile tour started at Christy Creme's restaurant and covered most of Council Bluffs' extensive trail system. Council Bluffs police provided cruisers for escorts on portions of the ride that took place on streets and highways.
Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan (pictured at right with Team Kaos' Sean Weide) led the ride. Coke Preston of Excel Sports of Boulder assisted with sag support in the team's new van.
Proceeds from the ride, which exceeded $1,000, will be contributed to Back to the River, Inc., the organization raising money for a pedestrian bridge that will span the Missouri River and connect Omaha with Council Bluffs.

In addition to helping youngsters learn how to use proper hand signals and improve their riding skills, Team Kaos members performed free bike inspections. One of the team's sponsors, UVEX, donated a dozen helmets to give away to children who needed one.
More than 500 children attended the four-hour event at the Southeast Precinct at 25th and Deer Park Blvd. In addition to the bike rodeo, face painting and animals from the Nebraska Humane Society were also part of the event.

Skies threatening rain hovered over the start of the 2006 Life-A-Thon Saturday. But, for the most part, the rain stayed away during the Nebraska Medical Center's annual ride to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.
Members of Team Kaos took time out from their training and racing schedule to provide support for the ride, along with team bike shop sponsor, Bike Masters. This year's ride covered more than 40 miles in and around Sarpy County and the Chalco Hills State Recreation Area at Wehrspann Lake.
