Lincoln — Strong thunderstorms packing dangerous lightning and dropping hail Sunday morning forced the postponement of the fourth Highgear/TREK of Omaha Road Training Series at Pioneers Park.

Promoter John Lefler, Jr. said the race is now rescheduled for Sunday, March 26, the day after the Psycowpath Mountain Bike Series opener.

Pre-registered riders for the March 12 race will have their entry fees honored for this race date, Lefler said.

Sunday’s postponement means Team Kaos’ Tim Farnham keeps his lead for another week.

Raymond, Neb. — Team Kaos’ Tim Farnham and Kevin Wilkins rode to third and fourth place finishes, respectively, in the Category I-II-III division at Saturday’s Highgear/TREK of Omaha Road Training Series at Branched Oak Lake State Recreation Area.

In the first of six training races over the next three weeks, Lincoln Plating-LeMond’s Jon Randell and Mike Munson rode to a 1-2 finish in the criterium that was run around a one-mile loop at Lieber’s Point. Munson attacked early in the 60-minute race. After Farnham launched an attack to bridge the gap, Randell counter-attacked to join his teammate and the two were away.

"Things settled down until two laps to go," Farnham said. "Then a guy tried to break away, the pack responded and it was all together again. On the last lap, he attacked again. After he was caught, Kevin kept going, with me monitoring the chase behind. I launched as soon as they gave up the chase to Kevin and was able to finish third."

Sunday’s second training race will be run on a two-mile loop at Pioneers Park in Lincoln. The first event goes off at 9 a.m.
