Omaha – It won’t be a reality for another two years, but the pedestrian bridge that will someday span the Missouri River was the talk of Omaha and Council Bluffs Thursday.

And Team Kaos was front and center as ground was broken for the $22 million structure.
The Midwest’s top amateur cycling team was one of about 100 invited guests on hand near Lewis & Clark landing on a damp, cloudy day more fit for a college football game than a monumental ceremony that was six years in the making.
Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey and Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan presided over the event, which featured performances by the Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson and Omaha Central High School bands.
Also on hand for the ceremony was Team Kaos’ bike shop sponsor, Dave Reinarz, representing Bike Masters.

Omaha, Neb. - "A long day in the saddle," is how Team Kaos' Mark Brackenbury described Sunday's third annual Bike Masters Century ride.
"It was pretty tough," Brackenbury said of the 100-mile ride that began and ended at the team's bike shop sponsor, Bike Masters, at 129th & Fort.
More than three dozen riders showed up for the third annual event, which celebrated Bike Masters' manager Dave Reinarz's successful recovery from a bad crash earlier this season. The ride, which normally occurs over the Labor Day weekend, was postponed a month so Reinarz could participate.

Breast Cancer Ride Attracts Record Numbers |

Omaha - The inaugural Trek-WSD Breast Cancer Awareness ride attracted nearly 70 riders Saturday at the Trek Bicycle Store in Omaha.
Trek Bicycle Store Owner Kent McNeill said the turnout was the largest of the more than two dozen participating stores across the country. More than $1,400 was raised for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, he said.
Team Kaos' Sean Weide joined the cyclists as they rode from the Trek store to the Keystone Trail, then proceeded north on the trail five miles to Democracy Park, where food and refreshments were available. Riders then turned around and headed south, back to the store for more food, refreshments and prize raffles.
Each participant received a gift bag, which included a pink bottle cage, commemorative water bottle and a pair of special arm event-logoed arm warmers.
"We originally were only going to give arm warmers to the first 25 pre-registrants, but because we had so many people pre-register, Trek gave us enough arm warmers to give to everyone," said Trek store employee Mark Savery.

Members of Team Kaos will participate in two recreational rides this weekend as part of their commitment to support community events.
Saturday's Breast Cancer Awareness ride departs from the TREK Store of Omaha at 7214 Jones Street at 10 a.m. The 10-mile ride along the Keystone Trail serves as a fundraiser for breast cancer research. The entry fee is $25 and each participant will receive a pink water bottle cage and water bottle.
Sunday is the third annual Bike Masters Century. The 100-mile ride leaves Bike Masters (129th & Fort Street) at 8 a.m. The ride is fully-supported and will be followed by a free chicken chili lunch at Bike Masters. For more information on the event, call Bike Masters at 964-1080.

Team Kaos Will Be Part of Groundbreaking Ceremony |

 Team Kaos has been invited to attend the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new pedestrian bridge on Oct. 26.
The $22 million, 3,000-foot bridge (pictured at right) will include two 200-foot-tall towers and cables that will hold the bridge 52 feet above the Missouri River. The bridge will span from Omaha's riverfront to a landing on the levee in Council Bluffs. Its three-sided towers and cables will be lit at night, creating a picturesque setting between the two cities.
Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey's office extended the invitation to Team Kaos to attend the groundbreaking as a representative of Omaha's cycling community. Team Kaos is one of the Midwest's leading bike racing teams and actively promotes cycling as a healthy lifestyle through its educational clinics and safety seminars in schools.
