Kansas City, Kan. – The wedding party viewed the rain as a good omen.

Tears of joy is what they say, Megan Hottman said on Saturday, her wedding day. But it's very bad luck for bike racing.

Spinouts on slippery streets took a short break Saturday when Megan and Team Kaos' Robert Helton tied the knot. They were married after competing in their respective races at the 43rd annual Tour of Kansas City.

Chaffin Second At Cliff Drive Classic Print E-mail

Kansas City, Kan. - Morgan Chaffin narrowly missed out on a victory in her first Tour of Kansas City race, finishing second at the Cliff Drive Classic Saturday.

Chaffin was less than a bike length behind the Category III-IV winner.

In the other races Saturday, rain showers made conditions slick for the Cat. III race, which saw Rob Helton race cautiously so as not to crash right before his wedding to LBC-High Gear's Megan Hottman. The rain let up in time for the nuptials, which took place just across from the start-finish line.

A thunderstorm disrupted the Pro-I-II race, forcing race officials to shorten it from 18 to 10 laps. BikeSource's Brian Jensen soloed away from an 11-rider chase group to win by nearly a minute.

Sunday's race is a criterium around downtown Overland Park.

Sunday's race is a criterium on a figure-eight course through the streets of downtown Overland Park. The race's Pro-I-II defending champion is Health Net's Scott Moninger.

Team Kaos members expected to attend are Rob Helton, Chris Spence, Chad Headlee, Joe McWilliams, Tim Farnham, Sebastian and Jason Kingsbury, Marco Vasquez and Morgan Chaffin.

Regardless of his performance, Helton will have a memorable weekend. He will marry fellow racer Megan Hottman on the start line before the Pro-I-II race Saturday.
