Lincoln, Neb. – Team Kaos’ Steven Muhle and Tim Farnham each spent a lot of time going it alone Sunday at the Capital City Criterium.
And in the end, both came away with hard-fought victories.
Muhle took off five laps into the 45-minute Masters 35+ race and spent 17 of the next 25 laps off the front. After being caught by Lincoln Plating’s Craig Schmidt, who was shadowed by Team Kaos’ Joe McWilliams, Muhle continued to set the pace for the trio, then outsprinted them for the victory.
Farnham also showed his strength early in the Pro-I-II-III race, riding at the front with LBC/High Gear’s Jay Thomas before setting off on his own. Thirty-seven laps of the .65-mile course later, he gamely raised one arm in victory as he crossed the line, exhausted by the effort. |

Waterloo, Ontario -- Team Kaos' Ian Robertson captured the Ontario Track Championship four kilometer pursuit title over the weekend at the Forest City Velodrome in Canada.
Robertson, who leads Nebraska's "Rider of the Year" competition in the Pro-I-II category, raced 15 times in three days while competing in seven events over the three days of championships in Waterloo, Ontario. Race organizers say the field was one of the largest in the history of the event.
"I just hope for some similarly good results at (Canadian) nationals," Robertson said. "I'm flying back to Lincoln Friday morning, then I drive to Calgary on Saturday. No rest for the wicked it seems." |

Waterloo, Ontario -- Ian Robertson, Team Kaos’ "Canadian Connection", tuned up for the Ontario Provincial Track Championships by winning the Madison at the Forest City Velodrome in Waterloo, Ontario.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln student also competed in a miss-and-out and a match sprint.
"It was a good evening," Robertson wrote in an e-mail from Canada. "The only annoying thing was that I went too slow on the banking on a warm-up lap and lost traction, slid down the banking and effectively sand-papered my butt." |

Baldwin City, Kan. -- Morgan Chaffin of Team Kaos won the opening six-mile time trial on the way to a second-place overall finish at the Baldwin City (Kan.) Stage Race.
Chaffin’s third place in the 40-minute criterium and second place in the closing 49-mile road race secured her a spot on the podium in the women’s open division.
Chaffin's victory in the time trial came despite a downpour that made the course treacherous in places.
"I felt really good, though I was a little apprehensive about going down," Chaffin said. "I just went out and gave it all I had. I was sure I did well when I finished."
Her second place in the road race was well-earned as well. Molly Vetter-Smith of Big Shark Racing continually went on the attack, trying to escape the field.
"On her last break I was able to catch her and Beth (McGill)," Chaffin said. "Molly, Beth, and I broke away and worked together to stay away from the rest of the women."
Team Kaos’ Tim Farnham of Lincoln won the Cat. I-II-III 83-mile road race Sunday as teammate Chris Spence of Omaha finished third. Farnham wound up finishing sixth overall while Spence was seventh.
In the Cat. III-IV division, Team Kaos’ Stephen Griffin finished sixth overall. |
