Message from Team Kaos President Marco Vasquez:

Omaha - In an effort to grow the sport of cycling among women in the Midwest, Team Kaos is proud to announce that the prize list for the Womens Open category at the Dave Babcook Memorial Stage Race has received a substantial boost.

We have $885 allocated for your categorym including cash prizes for the top three places in each of the three stages and the top seven places overall.

Click on this link to see complete payouts for the stage race.

In the past we reacted negatively to the lack of women attending the races. In turn, the attendance became worst. We recognize our mistakes and look to rebuild the trust and fields that this important category deserves.

Please receive our invitation and take a look at all the amenities we offer all our racers women and men alike.

We hope to see you and your teammates at the 2007 Dave Babcook Memorial Stage Race.

Please pass the word on to your fellow women racers.

McWilliamsBeatrice, Neb. - Morgan Chaffin (Women’s I-II-III), Joe McWilliams (Men’s Pro-I-II) and David Rogers (Masters Men 45+/Cat. III-IV) were crowned overall omnium champions Monday at the second annual Monumental Memorial Cycling Weekend.

McWilliams (pictured at right0 captured the final stage, the Industrial Row Criterium, over Jay Thomas (Midwest Cycling Community) to narrowly take the overall title from teammate Tim Farnham, who won Saturday’s Gage County road race. Team Kaos swept the podium with Mark Merritt’s third place, while a fourth Team Kaos rider – Marco Vasquez – finished fourth after winning Sunday’s Old West Trail Time Trial.

Chaffin improved on her second place overall in this race a year ago by sweeping all three stages. The Norfolk native was racing for the first time since a crash at the Joe Martin Stage Race.

Rogers won his title over teammate Jordan Brasch by winning the road race and time trial and finishing second in the criterium. Team Kaos teammate Jon Vondracek was first in the criterium (and second overall in the Cat. IV race) while Brasch finished third.

Tim FarnhamOdell, Neb. – Tim Farnham soloed to victory Saturday ahead of teammate Joe McWilliams as Team Kaos finished 1-2 in the Pro-I-II-III division of the Gage County Road Race.

Farnham’s victory was one of three wins for Team Kaos in the opening event of the Monumental Memorial Race Weekend. Morgan Chaffin captured the women’s 1-2-3 category and David Rogers won the Masters 45+ division.

Saturday’s races were run under mostly cloudy skies that threatened rain. Strong thunderstorms moved through the area prior to the event getting underway, but torrential rainfall let up and the skies cleared somewhat for the duration of the races that were held on a 10-mile circuit near Odell, Neb.

Farnham (seen at right) waited until the halfway point of his 60-mile race before venturing off on his own.

“I was actually trying to bait some of the Cat. III racers out so we could set up Tommy (Ralston) for the sprint in the end,” Farnham said. “I guess a couple of people tried to bridge up but they never made it up to me.”

Spence (pictured at left with teammate Mark Merritt on the lower step) clocked the fastest time of the day, 56 minutes and 58 seconds - an average speed of 26.3 mph - on the rolling, out-and-back course. The 47 riders who competed Saturday enjoyed a strong cross tailwind out of the south over the first 12.5 miles.

“My goal was to get under an hour,” Spence said. “At the turnaround, I had passed Jon (Nelson) and Mark (Merritt) so my goal was just to try and catch everybody I else coming back.”

Fayetteville, Ark. - Team Kaos' Ian Gray finished fourth overall in the Cat. I-II division of the 30th annual Joe Martin Stage Race.

Gray started the four-stage, three-day race strongly, finishing fourth in Friday’s opening stage, a 110-mile road race. He broke away with three others halfway up the 11-mile ascent of Mount Galor, which comes 35 miles from the finish. The four held off the chasing efforts of the 70-rider strong peloton.

Following a 28th place in Saturday morning’s 93-mile road race in which Gray remained in fourth overall, he lost a spot on the overall classification with a 12th-place finish in the 2.5-mile uphill time trial that afternoon.

But on the final stage, a 55-minutes-plus-three-laps criterium run under a blazing afternoon sun, Gray regained the fourth spot in the overall standings with a 15th place finish.

BikeDid you know May is "National Bike Month?"

Team Kaos is doing its part to help promote Bike-to-Work Week (May 14-18) and Bike-to-Work Day (May 18) by participating in both events again this year.

Bike-To-Work Day with Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey takes place on May 14 at 8 a.m. in downtown Omaha. More details will be posted on Team Kaos' website in advance of the event.

Bike-to-Work Week is your chance to help stay in shape without having to set aside additional time for exercise. Bicycle commuters tend to enjoy healthier lifestyles, get sick less often, and feel less stress.

Bicycle commuting is also one of the least expensive ways to get to work. There’s no gas, maintenance, parking fees, or insurance to pay for. Plus, bicycles don’t pollute the air or require lots of land for roads or parking lots. Eight to 12 bicycles can park in the space required for one car.

David Rogers
Team Kaos' David Rogers finished second overall in the Masters 45+ division.

Lincoln - Matt Pavlovich’s victory in the Category IV division led eight podium finishes by Team Kaos Sunday at the Lincoln Plating Spring Cycling Classic.

Pavlovich grabbed the lead in the first of three stages by winning the 13-mile time trial around Branched Oak Lake by seven seconds over Devin Bethune of Elkhorn Valley Cycling Powered by Monster. Pavlovich maintained his lead by breaking away with Bethune in Saturday afternoon’s road race, finishing only a second behind Bethune. In the final circuit race Sunday, Pavlovich finished third to cement the overall win.

“I just tried to keep it safe,” Pavlovich said, referring to the windy, rainy weather that made for less-than-desirable cycling conditions.

Pavlovich received the support of two other Team Kaos teammates in his races. John Vondracek finished third overall and Matt Farnham was seventh. Vondracek was fifth in the time trial but made up ground by finishing third in road race, nearly two minutes ahead of the fourth place finisher.
