Team Kaos Wins 16 Medals at Cornhusker State Games Print E-mail

Raymond, Neb. - Team Kaos put on a display of teamwork Sunday in the final event of the Cornhusker State Games, Nebraska's 22nd annual amateur sports festival.

Seven different racers from Team Kaos took home a total of 16 medals - double its total from 2005 - during the two-day, three-stage road cycling event held at Branched Oak State Recreation Area.

Morgan Chaffin led the medal charge with four golds (women's Cat. I-II-III), while Rich Pearson collected four silver medals (Masters 55+) and Emily Farnham (women's Cat. IV) took home three silvers.

Other medal winners for Team Kaos were: Ian Robertson (second in the Cat. I-II-III time trial, third overall), Jordan Brasch (third in the Cat. I-II-III road race), Joe Savoie (third in the Cat. IV road race) and Gary Schmidt (third overall in Masters 55+).

Team Kaos In Contention After First Day of State Games Print E-mail

Raymond, Neb. -Team Kaos' Rich Pearson is second overall in the Masters Men 55+ division after the first day of competition at the Cornhusker State Games.

Pearson finished second to Omaha Velo Club’s Fred Galata in both the 12.5 mile time trial and the 24.5 mile road race, both conducted around Branched Oak Lake State Recreation Area. Sunday’s final stage is a one-mile criterium around Lieber’s Point at Branched Oak.

Pearson is one of a number of Team Kaos racers still in contention for overall titles at the state’s amateur sports festival.

Team Kaos Ready For Cornhusker State Games Print E-mail

CornhuskerLincoln – Team Kaos will be out in force at this weekend’s Cornhusker State Games road cycling championships, the team’s first major competition in several weeks.

Eight riders in five different categories will participate in the two-day, three-stage race at Branched Oak State Recreation Area near Raymond, Neb.

Team Kaos’ Chris Spence and Morgan Chaffin are the Cornhusker State Games road cycling Cat. I-II-III and women’s I-II-III champions, respectively. A third Team Kaos racer, Gary Schmidt, finished second overall in the Master 55+ category last year.

Spence will not be on the start line for this year’s race. Instead, he will compete in the prestigious Bob Cook Memorial Mt. Evans Hill Climb in Colorado.

Brackenbury Wins Gold In State Games Adventure Race Print E-mail

Lincoln - Team Kaos’ Mark Brackenbury joined with John and Donna Holmes to capture the gold medal in the Cornhusker State Games three-person coed adventure race Saturday.

Brackenbury’s “On Your Left” team finished fourth overall of 113 teams (less than nine minutes behind the winner) and defeated its nearest coed team by nearly 14 minutes.

The event consisted of three off-road running legs (2.4 mile trail runs), two mountain bike segments (10-miles each), inflatable kayaking, a short swim and various other “activities” like carrying buckets of sand while walking on logs and a log flip. All team members had to complete each event.

 
Cascade Classic: Ian Gray Seventh in Cat. 3 Print E-mail

Cascade Classic, Stage 1, Cat. 3Bend, Oregon - Ian Gray of Team Kaos chose the Cascade Classic, one of the most prestigious and challenging stage races in North America, to start competing as a Category III racer.

Despite the mountainous terrain and long race distances, Gray finished an impressive seventh overall in the four-day, four-stage race July 13-16 in Bend, Oregon.

Gray was fifth in the opening 85-mile Asbestos Lawyers for Life Cascade Lakes Road Race, 22nd in the seven-mile Bend Research Inc.-Arnold Market Time Trial, 28th in the Stage 3 Desert Orthopedics/Rebound Physical Therapy-Downtown Criterium and 41st in the Deschutes Brewery-Awbrey Butte Circuit Race.

He finished 2:21 behind overall winner Mike McManus of Finnegan's Toys and was only eight seconds off the time of the fourth-place finisher after nearly seven hours of racing.
