Tim Farnham pictureMinneapolis, Minn. — Team Kaos’ Tim Farnham made a spectacular effort to bridge up to a two-man breakaway late in Sunday’s Minnesota State Criterium Championship race. But the energy used to close the gap cost him at the finish, when he didn’t have enough left to get by either of the pair in the sprint.

"I heard my teammate Jason (Kingsbury) yell that I needed to work in order for it to stick because the pack was closing in," Farnham said. "So I pulled for half a lap and (Eric) Marcotte took it to the last corner. I knew whomever came out of it first would win. I am very happy with third this time around."

Marcott, of the Birchwood Cycling Team, won over Bianchi Grand Performance’s Dale Sedwick on the scenic course that wound its way through the University of Minnesota campus. Farnham, who was one of the most active racers in the 80-minute race, picked up one of his best results since winning the Cat. III Nebraska State Criterium Championship at the Dave Babcook Memorial Race in June.

"I have learned that such a technical course does not allow for you to sit in any further back because the accordion effect really takes its toll on everyone but the first 10 riders or so," Farnham said. "It really takes more energy than being at the front."
