Omaha — With sunny skies overhead and virtually no wind, Team Kaos riders in Sunday's Corporate Cycling Challenge enjoyed nearly ideal conditions.
Hundreds of cyclists converged on the staging area in Heartland of America Park to participate in one of the three tours. Most Team Kaos riders pedaled in the 42-mile "Tour de Fort," which traveled north along Abbott Drive, Pershing Drive and Highway 75 to Fort Calhoun.
Among the first to arrive for Team Kaos were Doug Semisch, Gary Schmidt, Morgan Chaffin and Stephen Griffin. Mark Brackenbury, Terry Anderson, Dr. Byers Shaw and Marco Vasquez also represented the team in what is billed as Omaha's "largest one-day cycling event."
Also among the huge throng was GU Sports representative Dan Jennings, one of Team Kaos' fine sponsors, and Team Kaos public relations director Sean Weide.
The Nebraska Medical Center, University of Nebraska Medical Center and University Medical Associates participated in the AAA category of the corporate division. Union Pacific Railroad, the defending AAA champion, appeared to be in solid position to challenge for that title again, judging by the sheer number of riders wearing yellow jerseys.
Results from the corporate division are not expected to be known until later this week.
