Tommy Ralston convinced Tim Farnham to drive him to Indian Cave State Park Saturday for the NE MTB State Championship races. But Tommy's bike was in Michigan so he rode Tim's and Tim rode his new (used) single speed with a 14 tooth sprocket in the single speed category.
" At the start line I was worried because everyone else had 20 teeth", Tim said.
After a grueling 1:29 Tim came away the NE single speed MTB champion ahead of Moose's Tooth's Matt Wills.
Tim said: "The course was relatively flat except for five hills that I had to run/walk up" But Masters competitor Mark Brackenbury had a different view: "If he calls that flat, I'd hate to see what he calls hilly. There were some brutal climbs followed by steep loose downhills"
Brackenbury added: "I camped out with my kids and enjoyed the weekend. What struck me the most was the spirit and fun that all racers compete with. They all come accross the line with a smile in their face and come right back to cheer on the other finishers giving encouragement and high five." Something to think about....
