Sept. 21 — Morgan Chaffin is the inaugural Nebraska Rider of the Year (ROY) in the women’s Cat. I-I-III division. The first-year Team Kaos racer holds an insurmountable lead heading into Saturday’s final ROY event, the Second Annual Elmwood-Murdock Great Bicycle Race. Chaffin’s teammates, Gary Schmidt (Masters 55+) and Matt Farnham (Juniors 16-18), only need to finish their races Saturday to guarantee themselves ROY victories in their categories. Both lead their nearest competitors by 100 points. Chaffin’s nearest competitor is teammate Marie Neville, who is 250 points behind. Chaffin won all three of the Women’s Cat. IV events she raced and all three of her Women’s Cat. I-II-III races since being upgraded to Cat. III at the midpoint of the season.
In the Pro-I-II category, Team Kaos’ Jarred Berger stands third behind Lincoln Plating-LeMond teammates Jon Randell and Christian Davenport. In the Cat. III standings, Team Kaos’ Jordan Brasch is third behind Lincoln Plating-LeMond’s Craig Schmidt and Revolution Cycling’s Eric Buhs. Brasch’s Team Kaos teammate, Steven Muhle, is fourth in the same division. Saturday’s Elmwood-Murdock road race is one of the most challenging — and beautiful at the same time — in Eastern Nebraska. The action begins at 9 a.m. when the 68-mile Cat. I-II race goes off. Cat. III men will race 58 miles, Cat. IV and Masters 35+ racers go 48 miles, Cat. V, Masters 45+ and Masters 55+ go 38 miles, along with the Junior Men, Women’s Open and Junior Women racers. |
