Did you know May is "National Bike Month?"
Team Kaos is doing its part to help promote Bike-to-Work Week (May 14-18) and Bike-to-Work Day (May 18) by participating in both events again this year.
Bike-To-Work Day with Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey takes place on May 14 at 8 a.m. in downtown Omaha. More details will be posted on Team Kaos' website in advance of the event.
Bike-to-Work Week is your chance to help stay in shape without having to set aside additional time for exercise. Bicycle commuters tend to enjoy healthier lifestyles, get sick less often, and feel less stress.
Bicycle commuting is also one of the least expensive ways to get to work. There’s no gas, maintenance, parking fees, or insurance to pay for. Plus, bicycles don’t pollute the air or require lots of land for roads or parking lots. Eight to 12 bicycles can park in the space required for one car.
If you are looking for ways to celebrate National Bike Month, here are some ideas, courtesy of the League of American Bicyclists:
Ride with your child to school.
Make a CD of songs with the word "bicycle" in the song title or band name.
Write your congressman about the importance of bicycling.
Ask your employer to install bike racks at your workplace.
Put on a bike rodeo at your child's school.
Download the Bike Month Organizers Kit from the www.bikeleague.org and plan your own event.
Ride a different bike then usual.
Teach a child how to ride a bicycle.
Ask your employer to provide showers at work.
Write a letter to the editor of your local paper on the virtues of bicycling.
