Despite chilly morning temperatures, Team Kaos was a part of Life-A-Thon 2008 on Saturday, a fund-raising event designed to highlight the message of organ donation. Organized by The Nebraska Medical Center, Team Kaos' presenting sponsor, Life-A-Thon displays the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
With assistance from shop sponsor Bike Masters, Team Kaos provided mechanical and SAG support, and also donated half the cost of a new bicycle, which was raffled off by Life-A-Thon organizers.

Eleven Team Kaos riders participated in Saturday's event, held at Chalco Hills Recreation Area -- club president Mark Brackenbury, Doug Semisch, Gary Schmidt, Steve Cramer, Dave Rogers, Julie Rogers, Lou Andersen, Brandon Fenster, John Fairbanks, Mark Stursma and Bud Shaw.
Two riders, Fairbanks and Stursma, have their own connection to organ donation. Fairbanks was the recipient of a heart transplant 2005 after a massive heart attack at the end of a race. He has his sights set on the 2009 World Transplant Games on Australia's Gold Coast. Fairbanks was profiled by KETV Channel 7 last week, which can be viewed here .
In spring 2007, Stursma donated a kidney to his son Luke. Just a few short months later, Mark was back on his bike and raced in the inaugural Papillion Twilight Criterium, which he helped organize. Both Mark and Luke were in attendance on Saturday.
