Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center was on hand for Sunday's SAFE bike rodeo.

On a weekend free of racing, Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center was still out on the roads. Members were active both days, on Saturday at the weekly Bike Masters ride and on Sunday at the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure and at the annual Omaha Police Department SAFE bike rodeo.

Team Kaos takes pride in both its racing and community service resumes, and strives to make cycling an everyday way of life in Eastern Nebraska. For Sunday's Tour de Cure, the Team Kaos/Bike Masters squad of Bud Shaw, Scott Tarry, Doug Semisch, Scott Smith and Steve Paulson won a trophy as the group with the highest average funds raised per member. Shaw was the leading individual fundraiser, earning him a trophy he'll keep until next year's event.

Saturday's Bike Masters ride featured Team Type 1 pro rider Tim Hargrave. As an insulin-dependent diabetic, Hargrave and Team Type 1 are shattering beliefs about what people living with diabetes can and can't do. Hargrave was in town to help promote the next day's Tour de Cure. The group was large, the pace was spirited and the company was great. Thanks for riding with us, Tim.

Ted and Theresa Blume, Lou Andersen, Gary Schmidt and Brandon Fenster represented Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center at the bike rodeo. Each year, the Omaha Police Department and Team Kaos join forces to teach bicycle safety on a safe, closed course. In all, more than 600 people participated in the event, from volunteers to children to parents.

Also over the weekend, Team Kaos rider Matt Landen and Justin Maresh earned upgrades from USA Cycling. Landen is now a Cat. 1 rider, while Maresh moved up to Cat. 3. Both will make their debuts in their new categories at the upcoming Norfolk Cycling Classic on June 7 and 8.
