Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center riders Morgan Chaffin and Matt Pavlovich recently found their way onto podiums away from the Norfolk Classic spotlight of last weekend.
Chaffin won the Norfolk YMCA Triathlon while Pavlovich was third in the Thursday Elkhart Time Trial Series race.
Chaffin crossed the line in 53 minutes, 53 seconds for a nearly 7-minute win over runner-up Theresa Nordstrom of Omaha. Athletes in the long-course field swam 500 yards, rode 10 miles and finished with a 2.5-mile run.
Chaffin had the second-fastest swim time in the women's field, and easily recorded the best bike time. The time trial specialist rode 10 miles in 25:23 -- 5 minutes faster than Nordstrom's second-best time. Chaffin finished the run in 7:47, good for the fourth-best time to lock up the overall win.
So fast on the bike was Chaffin, her time was the second-best of the day, in all classes. Only Lucas Marshall of Omaha, who finished fourth in the men's race, was faster.
Pavlovich suited up in full aero gear for the 12K time trial near Elkhart, which is north of Des Moines. He finished in 16:14, which was good for second in the Men's 1/2/3 field. J.J. Bailey (Zoom Performance) won in 16:11, followed by Pavlovich in second and Pete Basso (All9Yards.com) in third in 16:15.
