TOPEKA, Kan. -- Morgan Chaffin of Team Kaos/Nebraska Medical Center won her second triathlon in as many weeks Saturday, claiming the women's championship at the Topeka Tinman Triathlon.
The 2007 Nebraska rider of the year finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 8 seconds, more than four minutes ahead of runner-up Christina Stiles of Shiloh, Ill. The course included a 1,100-yard open-water swim, a 19.7-mile ride and a 7.2-mile run.
Chaffin trailed Stiles by 19 seconds coming out of the water, and lost another second in the first transition zone. By the end of the bike portion, however, Stiles was nearly six minutes behind. Stiles got 2:30 back in the run, but the damage was done.
Combined with the men's fields, Chaffin recorded the eighth-best time of the day. Full results are available here .
