BABCOOK MEMORIAL CRITERIUM – Omaha, NE
Nebraska “Rider of the Year” event
Sunday, July 13, 2008 • 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m.
Downtown Omaha, 17th & Howard (on-street parking available around the course - free on Sundays)
Sponsored by: Team Kaos/The Nebraska Medical Center, the Babcook Family, and Bike Masters
BACKGROUND:
The Babcook Memorial Criterium and Tour is a celebration of cycling to
benefit the Babcook Family Cancer Research Fund. Dave Babcook was a
cyclist and research associate at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center who
raced in the Masters and Cat. III divisions before being diagnosed with
pancreatic cancer in 1998. He underwent treatment at UNMC but lost his
battle with the disease in 2000. His family established the Babcook
Family Research Fund in his memory. We also remember Dave’s mother,
Clarissa Babcook, who also succumbed to pancreatic cancer this past
year. Our thoughts are with the Babcook family and we dedicate this
race and tour to increasing awareness of this terrible disease.
Proceeds from the Babcook Memorial Criterium and Tour support
pancreatic cancer research at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. The
Babcook Family Cancer Research Fund is managed by the University of
Nebraska Foundation.
