Though the fall weather has cooled things off in eastern Nebraska, Team Kaos' hot streak has continued.
Brandon Fenster and Matt Farnham each have claimed big wins in the past few weeks. Fenster won the Cat. 4 state road race crown in late September, while Farnham opened the cyclocross season with a win on Sunday.
Fenster's win in the Sept. 19 Nebraska state road race sealed his Cat. 4 Rider of the Year crown. It's the third straight Cat. 4 ROY title for Team Kaos, following Justin Maresh in 2007 and Bryan Redemske in 2008.
In the Cat. 1/2/3 race, Farnham placed fourth to take the field sprint. Teammate John Vondracek was sixth and Joe McWilliams was seventh. Redemske placed 17th in his return to racing after suffering a broken back in late June.
Vondracek won the Cat. 1/2 rider of the year title in his first season as a Cat. 2 racer. Both he and Fenster will race free of charge in Nebraska next season.
Also in the Cat. 4 race, Mike Miles, Shane Seymour and Jeremy Eisenhauer came across the line in the pack sprint.
Doug Semisch and Gary Schmidt rode the Cat. 5 race, and Suzanne Wilson rode the Cat. 4 women's race.
Farnham opened the Nebraska cyclocross season on Saturday (Oct. 3) with a win in the Cat. 3/4 race. He followed it with a runner-up finish in the Cat. 1/2/3 race. Rich Pearson finished second in the masters race, as did Miles in the Cat. 4 race.
On Sunday, Farnham clocked the three fastest laps of the day on the way to the Cat. 1/2/3 win. Miles was fourth in the Cat. 3/4 race and Pearson was third in the masters race.
