bergerNORFOLK, Neb. -- Team Kaos had a successful weekend at the Norfolk Classic, held on June 5 and 6 in Stanton and Norfolk.  In contrast to last year's windy and rainy weekend, perfect weather greeted this year's record turnout.

Kyle McClellan came in second in the Cat. 4 race, assisted by teammates Scott Kiddoo and Rich Pearson. By the end of the race, the main field had dwindled to 8 riders through attrition, especially on the last downwind leg, ending in a sprint at the end.  Tom Thorne just edged out McClellan for the win.

In the Cat 1/2 race, Kaos powerhouse Jarred Berger went out on his own about 1/3 of the way in and stayed away, coming in more than three  minutes ahead of four chasers and another minute ahead of the pack.  Chris Spence and Ian Robertson were part of the chase group, with Spence and Robertson coming in 2nd and 3rd to make a clean sweep for Team Kaos.   Ashton Lambie was 4th in Cat 3 and Vaughn Pierce was 6th. Mark Heubner came in 3rd in the Juniors event.

On Sunday, two Team Kaos riders were crowned State Champions in the Nebraska State Criterium Championships.  In Cat 4 McClellan and Pearson were joined by Jordon Ross.  The pack stayed together throughout the entire race, with a mass sprint at the end, with Ross 7th, Pearson 8th and McClellan 13th.

In the Cat. 3 race, Justin Maresh had an impressive ride, going out alone for most of the distance, later joined by Asthon Lambie.  They eventually lapped the field, and Lambie graciously let Maresh roll across in first place and state championship.

Cat. 2 saw some excellent teamwork, with Joe McWilliams taking off early on his own, while Ian Robertson and Jarred Berger worked to slow the pack so McWilliams could stay away.  About halfway through, Berger bridged up to McWilliams and they kept up the blistering pace. Other riders attempted to bridge up to them and eventually a group of three was able to catch them.  With just a lap to go Berger turned on the afterburners and got clear for the win, with McWilliams outsprinting the others for second place.  Robertson came in 7th place.
